We are using the Nortel Networks T7316 Norstar phone and a co-worker wants to reset his voicemail.

Right now, he only has a primary greeting recorded (no personalized ones). What he wants is to delete the recording and use the default voicemail message which happens if you have no recording at all- the one that runs when you first initialize the voicemail. The default one being- it plays your recorded name, then a voice says "Is not available...."

I can't figure out how to do away with his primary greeting and play the default one other than deleting his mailbox and creating it again.

Any hints? Thanks.

Out his mailbox and rebuild it.

All righty, will do. Thanks.

By the way, is there a reason why the ability to delete this recording wasn't implemented? Doesn't seem like that big of a deal.

Brilliant brains at Nortel!!! That's the biggest oxymoron I've ever heard. Right up there with Jumbo shrimp or Military intelligence.

The same brains that had pulse dialing as the default.

You could always make a new mailbox and call that phone with a recording device and record the default greeting then go into the mailbox where the owner wants to change the greeting and hit the record greeting option and play the recorded default greeting and save it. It might not be the same perfect sound quality but you would not have to delete the mailbox to get it. Just look at the bottom of this post and understand there are ways to do things that other people say can't be done.

And, if you ever need to help someone evade bill collectors but need to keep their phone number, you call numbers until you find a disconnected number and hear: "The number you have called has been disconnect and there is no new number."

Play that into the person's answering machine or record that into the person's phone company voice mail box and then a minute of silence. Bill collectors will hang up but friends will know to wait one minute til the beep. Now, how many of you have heard of that trick?

Thats actually a cool trick... Except for the answering machines that wont give you more than 15 seconds for a message LOL.
