We are having a problem with our phone system. In the past two weeks, we have two phones that seem to be getting front desk calls. If we pick them up, the caller tells us that they are calling the main line. We can not find anywhere in our configuration that shows us which phones are attached with the main line.

I am not sure as to what version we are running. On our phone system, we have the following info from the box on the wall:

Norstar-PLUS 0051 Rel 09 9/22/2000

Please help.

Thanks,
Keith

Without having lot of details from you of how your system is set up, I can only tell that there so many ways in which this can occur. I suggest you contact a qualified installer in your area.

Why don't you try making a couple dozen calls to the main number (when that line is not busy) and see if any of them ring to other phones in addition to the front desk.

Repeat the same test calling line two and see if other phones ring.

Repeat the same test calling line three and see if other phones ring.

Repeat the same test calling line four and see if other phones ring.

It is very possible that one of the lines in your incoming ringing group was assigned to ring on extra phones. You may not get the call ringing to those extra phones until lines 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 are busy and when line 6 ring, BINGO.

Try this test before you do anything else.

Thanks. I think I found the problem. I was looking through the Terminal & Sets > Line Access > Line Assignment > Show Line

The Extention seemed to be assigned to the same line as the front desk. Upon examining other extention in that department they all pointed to another line. I changed the line that it was pointed to, to the same one as the others in that department and the problem went away.

Could this pose a problem in the future?

Thanks,
Keith

Only if you change it back to the way it was, then they would start to complain again. Glad you solved it, Bunnie
