Calling out = OK (fax machines are able to send faxes after dialing 9).

Haven't tried that yet, but I assume yes, as I receive a Nortel dial-tone on the butt-set.

If I understand this right, you are making the fax station busy and a second call made to that number gives ringing in your ear? Yes?

Well a PRI is going to try to give as many calls to a DID as it has calls coming in to that number. If you make that extension busy and call it you probably hear ringing because something is not kosher yet with making that extension ring busy and I don't have an answer for that, but perhaps an over all solution.

In the carrier's switch, can they limit the number of calls to that come to a specific DID? Can they let unlimited calls come to the BTN while allowing only one call at a time to the fax DIDs? That would give ring busy on a second call at the switch level and that is your desired result.

I wish I could help with the ring busy that isn't working on the MICS, but I can't think of anything you have done incorrectly or haven't done.

As Bunny said above thats the way we do it here is by having the telco limit the amount of calls comming in on a number to one. That would solve your problem.
