We have modular ICS6.1 nortstar telephone system. Two of our employees are switching spots in the office, but they want to keep their phone extensions. I was wondering if there is any way to switch their extensions?
Thanks
Daniela

you can turn set relocation on in system programming (if not already on) and then just move the phones.

Or, a better metdod is to move the jumpers in the telephone closet. This will keep the port and ext number map intact.

Thanks for your replay. When I move the phone, I’m getting different info depending in which phone jack is plugged, so I guess set relocation is turned off. Can you tell me how to turn it on? Then, when I move phone all settings, extension, mailbox, greetings …, will be stored in the phone? Is moving jumpers simple task or work for technicians?

Sofeska,
Re-punching the extensions is a task for a technician.
Also, just for your information, no information is ever stored in the telephone. Using set rel;ocation just tells the system where that phone extension is now located. All settings and voice mail information would follow the phone.

I’m sorry I’m asking dump questions, but I’m not so familiar with phone systems...
So, with set relocation on, and switching telephones, I will have the same effect, (I mean only on using their old extension and mailbox settings), like moving the jumpers in the telephone closet????

Set Relocation will tell the system which "jumper" actually, port, the information should now be sent to.

Moving the jumpers requires punch down tools, and training. You would need a tech for this.

Sofeska: If you move the jumpers (cross-cuts) then the ports will keep the same DN which makes it nice for troubleshooting later. If you turn on "set relocation" then the DN's will change for the ports in the system. BUT when changing the phones from jack to jack ONLY do two at a time. If you remove more than two at a time, the system may not remember all the sets disconnected. If you are doing the full "Chinese Fire Drill" with the phones, just be careful with set relocation turned on. Take one phone to new location. Then take that phone to its new location. Then take......etc....
