I've got users at our sales location (MICS4.1) trained to transfer support calls to our service centre (CICS6.1) by way of a dest code I setup for them. Although it works fine I get periodic reports of low-volume on the transfer where the guys on the other end can hardly hear the caller. Is there a way to boost the gain on externally transferred calls only, or is this just a CO issue that I can't affect?
Thanks for input.

Hi Mike W, I've done a little bit of research and found some differing opinions on this particular fix. You may want to check your loss package settings and noodle with them to see if it doesn't help. I think you'll find this menu choice under line programming.

why don't you get telco (link) transfer on the lines and use your telco to transfer the call. this will free up your line after the transfer is completed.
using external forward on MICS or CICS creates a conference between to lines. this not only ties up 2 lines but also there is a definite drop in audio.
try as tronics suggests, but really you should consider using Bell to transfer.

This is a problem with Norstars that we (and ITAS) have not found a solution for yet.

The conference bridge you are creating is no better or no worse than making a call to parties in different cities and using the conference button to link them together. You hear them fine, each of them hear you fine, but they hear each other at half volume.
I upgraded my office system to the Toshiba CTX (now CIX) just to get the amplified conferencing that it promised. I wasted my money, the conferencing sucks, you have to unplug both dial tones to get it to hang up and if one person drops off it screaches like a banshee.
If you are bridging (conferencing) two lines off a T-1 or PRI I believe all parties hear each other at equal volume.
Voavi and Samsung "balance" the line digitally but do not amplify it so you can have five people in a conference all hearing at the same level but you raise the volume on the phone for that call.

Thanks for the posts. I'll look into getting that link transfer from our telco. Will adjusting LossPkg settings negatively affect other areas of the system that are currently working fine?

As far as I know the LossPkg settings have to do with how far or close you are to your service providers CO. They're meant to either lower signal when to hot or boost if to weak. I don't think it should affect any other aspect of your system. Somebody, correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks, John

Nortel has a new release LS/DS and CLID cards comming out that is suppose to provide more volume on the external call transfers and external call forwards. I can tell you in Calgary the transfer feature we use from Telus costs around $7 a month per line, they want the feature on.
Two girls later and I'm back.....lol...been gone a while but see same faces still here. Lol

Nickels, how exactly does a link transfer work? Right now, my users transfer to the dest code for the service centre, wait on the line until the service centre CCR picks up, select the appropriate extension, wait for that person to pickup, announce the transfer and join the two parties. A lot of work, yes, but it makes it seamless to the customer (except for the volume of course). Can link transfers be announced by the transferring party or must they be blind?
We are using CLID cards at the moment, but I don't think new ones are in the budget (even if the volume is improved).

Mike, link transfer works the same way.
Flash the line (first call goes on "hold"), you get stutter dial tone from the provider.
Call the third party... do what you normally do, then either hang up to complete the transfer or you can flash the line again to be in a 3-way call.
