We are looking to upgrade our 0x32 from 3.0 to 6.1MR. However our vendor is really trying to push 7.0. They said 6.1 is not supported anymore. My question is what would be the benefit of going to 7.0 instead of 6.1 MR. Are there still bugs with 7.0. Thanks for your response. Scottie

Depending what version 6.1 you have/get; could be far more "buggier" than 7.0. 7.0 is the latest version out now, so if you are going to upgrade, why not get whats current? Seems silly to argue with your vendor about what version of software you need, unless you're sudenly the expert, and in that case, why hire them in the first place?

When 7.0 came out, it did have bugs. By now all the bugs should be out of it and it should be safe.

If the installer said that 6.1 was not supported any more, if that was EXACTLY what they said, I would find another installer. Since 7.0 came after 6.1, what about all those thousands and thousands and thousands of customers who bought 6.1 because 7.0 had not been invented yet? Have their systems stopped working since 7.0 came out? I don't think so.

Some installers will charge you more, some less, some show up on time, some fit you into the schedule when possible, some label all their wires, some are too lazy. You can deal with all that, but if they lie to you, dump them.

When I know a customer is lying to me, I look them in the face and say, "That's not true, someone may have convinced you, but I know the truth." If they push it, I have other people who want work done and I can trust them. Life is too short to spend your time working for liars and creeps.

7.0 was released to take advantage of the new wireless systems Nortel is making, which replces companion. It also open the last 2 ports on a mega expansion for use by station modules. These ports were restricted to compaiion only. Other than these changes 7.0 and 6.1MR are identical.

6.1 "non-support" by Nortel is a misnomer. They no longer make that version therefore any 6.1 flash card you buy will either be used or a copy someone has made.

If you are getting a price break on 6.1MR, are comfortable with the source of the software and you don't ever see the need for added features of 7.0 then buy the 6.1MR.

I agree with you Telemarv. I feel very comfortable with 6.1MR, and have no need for a wireless features. Thanks for the info.
