The Fiber cable is only carrying light. So It's no problem to connect a new module when the system is hot.

I would NEVER pull or install a copper card with the system hot!!!!!!

So you guys are saying, and I only ask this because it is a different procedure than I have used and was trained on, that if you have a 0X12 expansion and you are having troubles with 1 card you power the 0X12 down and then pull the card. This would take all the other lines down in that cabinet, just to swap out 1 card?? Do you at least disable that slot or module before you power it off. I was trained by a Nortel Tech who advised us that if you disable the slot for that card, it is essentially turning the connection to that slot off and removing the power. So I am not sure if we are talking about pulling the card out, without disabling, as a Hot swap or are we talking about a hot swap, as a card removed, without powering the system down, and still disabling the card? I am going to call ITAS and see what they have to say and will repost.
Thanks

Personally, I would not pull a card from any cabinet that is powered, whether the slot is disabled or not.

Curious to hear what nortel has to say... let us know Nickels

Per Nortel and we had 2 senior supervisors sit around on this one. And I qoute "Nortel has no equipment that is hot swap able" BCM's especially, you can slide cards in and out of MICs and CIC's and it will work 90% of the time and have no effect on the card, but is not recommended as the disable feature only turns the software side of the card off. There is still power connected to that card. Nortel advises you power off all equipment slide out the card and reinstall the card. So as I often have to tell my wife I have done that for 10 years, and she says you better start changin that. Here is another thing I need to add to my list.

On all Nortel M1 equipment in all the manauls that I have, advises the Installer to disable the card, replace the card, enable the card as the card replacement procedure.
