I have a customer who has 2 locations. Each location has an older 8x24 DR5DS. If customer calls the first location they would like to be able to transfer them to the second location. Any ideas on what the best way to accomplish this would be appreciated.

Is it just a general transfer to the second location or do they want to transfer to specific extensions at the second location? If it's just a general transfer to the location, I'd use the link feature from the CO (F71) to the main number of the second location - that's the easiest and cheapest way. If they want specific extensions, you have to tie the systems together with tie lines.

I have not done that, but there is a customer of mine that would like to do networking--so if you find anything out--let me know, please.
In my manual, it starts explaining networking things on page 1. Two Nortels, E & M tie lines, setting up routing, setting up extension numbers etc.
The easiest thing to do would be to get Centrex lines--put a Link button on there---and away you go. Good Luck.

Thanks Bartel and JW for the info. Yes it is a general transfer from 1 location to another. I had suggested the link feature to the customer already, but they wanted some more options. Beside the E & M tie lines are there any other options to transfer the calls.
thanks

Thanks Marv. If they upgraded to a MICS 7.0 does that not have external call transfer built in to it? Also can they still use the M - series sets, or do they need to upgrade to the T-series sets.
thanks

External call transfer remains the same on a MICS with the added method of PRI and the capability of centralized voice mail. I think you might be confusing external call forwarding which came into play on MICS/CICS 4.1
There are problems with volume on M series phones that are pre rev 17. Easiest way to tell is whether the phone is emprinted with "meridian" or "norstar". You will probably have complaints with "meridian" sets.

Just an update, I spoke to MCK today and they had told me that by using there extenders we could accomplish the call transfer. Just wondering what is better for the customer, using the MCK extenders, or upgrading from the 8x24 to MICS.

MCK's tend to work O.K. You will have to reboot them (MCK's) occassionally.

MCK would be the less expensive way to go, but keep in mind MCK runs through raw internet. Internet has no service gaurantee.
