I have a Norstar MICS 4.0 with loop start lines. The user claims they used to be able to transfer calls by simply pressing a memory key on a 7310. Then they would hit the release key once for a conference or twice to complete the transfer.

According to the user:
-User answers incoming call
-Presses memory button programmed as an internal autodial key
-After second internal user answers the first user presses the rls key once for a 3-way conference.
-User presses the rls a second time to drop out of the conference and complete the transfer.
-Then the line is free for another call.

What I observed is that when the user is active on a call and presses a internal autodial key the incoming call is placed on hold an intercom call is made.

The transfer feature works when using the transfer softkey or FEAT 70.

Is there a way to configure the stations, memory buttons, or feature buttons to allow transferring calls by pressing only one key instead of pressing transfer and the autodial key?

As far as freeing up the CO line after a transfer I can only see that happing if the transfer takes place through the CO switch. I tried programming a speed dial key with feat 71 and a number which works to free up the called number but then they lose the internal autodial.

Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

Nostar does not allow for one touch transfer as your customer describes.

You must press the soft transfer key, F70, or a memory key programmed with F70. Then you can press an internal memory key to transfer the call.

Pressing just the internal memory key will result in, as you describe, placing the call on hold (if full autohold is turned on). You can then announce the call "John call on line one" and John can press line one to receive the call.

If the call appears on an IC, you must use F70 to transfer, the IC will become available after an internal transfer.

I explained it to the customer as you explained it in your post; however, the customer is convinced they only had to press the memory key to transfer calls internally.

Thanks for your help.

I know you hate to tell them this but, they are wrong. It could not have happened that way on a Nortel system.

Is it possible the customer had centrex lines with a centrex local on each set. That way a call could be transfered with one button programed with link and the other centex number.

Very clever pickup Bob, probably what it was. I've only done programming on one Norstar Centrex ever and that was only one service call.

You might have had more of it in Canada, centrex was never popular around here in California.

Nortel had Centrex software cartridges and I am pretty sure this was a feature of it. I removed a ton of these cartridges and replaced them with normal software when we added voicemails to the city hall systems.

One of the big complaints after changing the software was that they no longer could transfer a line to another department. I ended up programming in a "link" button so they could do it again, but it now took an extra step.

I programmed the memory buttons as an external autodial with F71 and a number to transfer to. and internal autodial under the secondary memory buttons (shift + the button). So now they can tranfer a call of the CO line but, to call the IC they must first press the shift key.

As for the Centrex software cartridge--how will I know if I have one in this system and if I do how would I configure the phones?

Also the system version is SP 30m1E05 Nat. Can someone translate that for me?

Your SP# tells us that you have MICS 4.0 software (standard version, not Centrex).
