I have to replace the Base Function Tray in a BCM 400 for a customer. If I understand correctly, this is a common problem and Nortel issued a tech bulletin about this.

Has anyone changed one out? If so, can you describe the process?

Thanks,
Larry

The function tray replacement that I know of, is because the caps on the board are bad. If that is the case you should also check the MSC card. You need to see if there is a wire soldered on it. If not, you may need to replace it also.
FIRST - Do a backup to your laptop.
It is pretty straight forward to replace. There are a couple screws in the front. Pull the levers and the tray comes out...only so far. Then remove the cables to the MSC card. (just remember which one goes where) Pull the tray out farther and then remove any other cables holding it in. Presto it is out. If they sent you a whole tray, slide it in, put the cables on, screws in, and its back together again. Just check the caps on the new part, make sure they are the good ones. I think blue(ish) is good.....if I remember correctly.
I am trying to remember......I think as long as you didn't replace the disk drive you shouldn't have to worry about software. BCM GUY--Is that correct?

What NT said! :thumb:

It's pretty much plug and play Larry. If you're not replacing the hard drive or MSC card, there shouldn't be any software to worry about.

The new BFT will come with a document that details the procedure.

Good Luck!

Thanks guys! I appreciate the info. I won't be able to do a backup because I can't even get the BCM to ping.
