We are a small college with a nortel meridian 61C. On our local calls, Verizon sends our name and switchboard number. However, for our LD calls caller ID does not work, and it comes up "unknown." AT&T is the LD carrier. We do not want exact extension translation, inbound caller ID, or anything else. All we want is the college name and switchboard number stamped on ALL outgoing LD calls. That's it. AT&T says we need a PRI T1 to do that. Verizon says they are nuts, that this can be done at the carrier level and we don't need to change a thing. Right now we have a standard T1 without PRI. I can't seem to get a straight answer about this. Can't AT&T do this - just label all the trunk groups with the name and number? Why do we need PRI? We don't have PRI on the local calls and Verizon puts the info on. And Sprint says they can do it too with a non-PRI T1. Since all we want is a basic spill of a name and number on all LD calls, why can't AT&T do that for us? If somebody could explain this to me I would deeply appreciate it. I had a 35 minute phone conference today with Verizon and AT&T and am no closer to the truth than when I started. Thank you.

We need you to complete you profile before we can offer any detailed assistance per the terms of service of this site. Your cooperation is appreciated.

Verizon is a mixture of many former Bell and GTE territories, each with different ways of doing things. Same with AT&T; is it AT&T or at&t? Throwing Sprint (now Embarq)into the mix makes it even more difficult for us to help without more accurate location information. There are many variables and we can't assist you accurately without at least knowing where you are located.
