Yes I'm new here and need some input from the experts.

Problem: Our Fire Dept' purchased the current phone system that we have, a CICS Model NT7B56, with a NT5B41GB-92 REL 02A installed. The software is, I'm guessing, restricted as it says 4x8 on it, I haven't gotten the numbers off it yet but will.

We have the need to install a few more telephone sets and are at capacity. How is the best way to go about getting an upgrade? The real problem is that our local phone company is the dealer in the area and charge about 5x what I could buy for elsewhere, I don't mind us paying for the service, I just want to pay a reasonable fee.

I'm assuming that I should upgrade this system to current but don't really know if that is necessary or not.

I feel that we have inhouse the technical ability to do the install and the associated programming and such, except for any new keycodes that may be needed (the downfall), everything was wired for the additional extensions when the building was constructed.

So I'm basically looking for some good advice as to how to proceed with this project in a timely manner.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Jeff

You should be able to open what you have to standard (8x16) by adding just a keycode. You should be able to get a keycode from any Authorized Dealer.

This being the case, I assume there are costs associated with the keycode. If there is an authorized dealer here who would like to help me out please pm or e-mail me.

Check the "Installer" listings at the top of this page. Depending on where you are in PA, a member of this board may be nearby where you are, and may be able to set it up for a reasonable fee.

Hope this helps :thumb:

I would give them a call anyway because they can walk you through the keycode installation. At least the people here will treat you fair.

Jimmy, Thank you.

I wanted to give someone here on the board a chance at taking our money, we also will want to buy some desksets and possibly a vm of some type in the near future. I thought someone here maybe interested.

Jeff:

Many people here aren't able to check in until after hours, so give the Nortel folks here until tomorrow. I am sure that someone here will be able to offer you assistance.

If you might be adding a voice mail later it would probably be better to upgrade the software to a higher version than to go adding keycodes to an older version then haveing to upgrade for it to take voice mail. Check your version and see if what voice mail will work on it.

You probably will find it is less expensive to buy an unrestricted software card than buying a keycode to open your current software.
