Perpective client (school)wants a quote to chane his old Vantage 4 system to a newer system with a door phone & controller.

The secretary will normally control the door from her phone, but when not there they want anyone to be able to answer, including a cordless phone.

I plan on a 3x8 DR5.1 with an ATA for the cordless. Are there different models of door phone & controllers and if so, which should I use? I've never installed one.

OK, but that's not the question. Is there more than one model of door phone & controller?

Also, does the door phone come with some kind of a box or is it built into the wall? Where does the controller go...by the system or the door?

I've only installed a Norstar Doorphone and a Door Opening Controller on a Nortel system. I've seen another model (made by Aiphone) but have never worked with it. The Norstar doorphone can be flush mounted into a 2 gang box or surface mounted. It comes with a surface mount box with screws and seals. I usually put the controller beside the KSU and just wire it to your cable going to the doorphone.

Hope that helps
Chris

There is a Norstar Doorphone and a BST doorphone. According to the manual that I have, you can use either on a Norstar. Both look the same, it is just the part number that is different. NT8B79FA Norstar Only.

I've installed several door phones and controllers. Never looked into a 3rd party unit. They can be mounted either directly on the wall or screwed to a 4x4 box. Make sure you use the rubber gasket that comes with it. The unit is water resistant NOT water proof.

DOC mounts near the KSU and is where you connect the power for the door strike.

Follw the book it's not dificult. Watch your programming. no lines, no hunt groups, no voice mail etc.
