The model DS indicates the KSU supports disconnect supervision. This allows the voice mail ports to disconnect after a call has hung up. Without DS the ports hang open tieing up lines and recording open air or howler tones until the customer hunts you down and makes your life more miserable than a man with 12 ex-wives.

OK. That explains why I had a 616 without DS that would not release the line. I was able to simulate DS by reversing polarity of the CO line. Really.It worked.

Are you talikg about a 385 or 110? Either way if you are going to install one of those, buy some advil. You are only looking for troubles. Mechanical hard drives are awesome, NOT. You can find used flashes anywhere and cheap! The only time I would ever look at one of those, is if I bought a new boat and needed an anchor!
