I have serched many forums and google, but can't find the answer to my question. I turn to you guys to hopefully help me.

I have a MICS 6.1XC with a NVRAM rel 01. I have new 7.1XC software with a new rel 02 NVRAM (required for 7.1). I also have the 7.1XC upgrade tool. My question is what is the proper procedure to change out my NVRAM and upgrade to my new 7.1?

Thanks for the help,

Dan

The only you have to do is change Flash card and power up the system. It should upgrade you and do not change any codes what you have in right now. I am talking about PRI.

My understanding is that the programming is in the NVRAM cartridge and I have to change out the NVRAM cartridge because of the rel 02 issue with the 7.1 software. My qestion is do I put the new NVRAM in the system along with the upgrade tool to move the programming over to the new NVRAM and then once that is done, put in the 7.1 software? Hope someone can guide me in the right direction. Thanks!

7.1XC upgrade tools only if you are upgrading 7.1 to higher Rls. To upgrade fro 6.1 to 7.1 you only cganging NVRAM.

I'm pretty sure that if I change out the NVRAM cartridge and put in my 7.1 software PCMCIA card, that the programming will be lost. I don't want to have to reprogram a full blown MICS where the customer has used set relocation in the past. Thanks for the replies!

If you so sure do your back up first and then restore. All your program still in Cartridge's RAM only software with additional Features is in NVRAM.

I am sorry for missunderstand you. Like as I replied before you have to change only Flash(PCMCIA) not NVRAM. NVRAM for Rel.6.1 and 7.1 are the same.

I've not run into your scenerio before.

You should already be on a rel 2 NVRAM cartridge if you're using 6.1, but you say you're on a rel 1.

You should be able to replace the NVRAM cartridge without losing data by replacing the cartridge and putting your old 6.1 software back in. Once it completes the restart with the new cartridge and data is uploaded, remove the power and 6.1 flash card, install the 7.1 and reapply the power.

You better back up first though and take notes of the port to DN map just in case. Also if you're running a PRI be prepared for a sys id change and the need to recover the PRI keycode.

This in not an upgrade for the faint of heart.

Marv, I brought the system up to the 6.1 from a 4.0. That is why there is only a rel 1 NVRAM in it. I know all too well about the sys id change from past experiences. That is why I am wanting to do this the proper way.

I have tried a backup on another system before changing out the NVRAM and it wouldn't let me do a restore because of an NVRAM mismatch or something like that. I don't remember, it was a long time ago.

It shouldn't hurt to use the upgrade tool that I have to upgrade to the new NVRAM, should it?

Thanks for the replies.

I know the backup is not compatible with new cartridge, but itwill let you go back to square one if you're unsuccessful.

Yes use the the tool to install the new NVRAM with 6.1. Then go to 7.x.
