Hi. I've got a Nortel Meridian ICS system here that's been sort of left alone since it was installed. The system version appears to be "30ARF01 NAT". As you can probably tell, I'm not really a phone system technician, but some of this stuff falls on my shoulders anyway.
Recently, I was faced with hooking up a Fax machine to the system so that we could send outgoing faxes through it. I picked up an ATA 2 unit, and eventually found a user guide for it online (it didn't come with any documentation). Through some fiddling, I've got it so that if you pick up the line from the Fax machine, it picks up the intercom (internal) line. However, I can't for the life of me figure out how to get it to pick up an external line. I tried setting the prime line to one of the external lines and if I hook up a digital handset to the line, I get that line automatically. However, when I hook the ATA 2 back up and pick up, no dice -- I either get nothing, or I get the intercom (depending on what fiddling has been done).
Any help you can offer would be fantastic.

Setting the ata2 DN to use prime line (as you said you did) of whatever outgoing line you want to use for your fax machine should work. What happens if you plug an analog phone into the ATA and have prime line set to your outgoing line?

Thanks, folks. I got it working by simply changing the "Intercom Buttons" value to 0. *shrug* I have no idea why that works, but everything seems hunky-dory now.

By default the analog station goes to intercom dial tone. The system doesn't know it's a fax machine, so how would the station dial another extension? By taking away the intercom button (no intercom path available) I guess it has no choice but to access the preferred line.

b_bears, You cann't set up Prime line on ATA to outside. It will be always Icm. If you are not taking away Icm. you have to setup your ATA as a Hot line to DN that have any trunk or Pool as a Prime line.
