I've got 2 problems with a cordless T7406 phone. Pls let me know if anybody else is having similar problems.
Problem # 1: Charger phone light not indicating charging. Charger changed works then fails again.!!!
Problem # 2: Slow or delayed dial tone , after selecting the line button. The delay is app. 2-3 seconds.
I'm not happy with the T7406's. Am I missing something in the programming??
Does anybody know the exact dc voltages??
1.)Bottom of fully charged cordless? ______ dcv ?
2.) On phone charger?? __________ dcv ?
3.) On battery charger? _________ dcv ?
Does anyone know if a more reliable cordless works with the Norstar CICS? What do you recommend? Help??? tks...

Do you just have this one 7406 on the system? Do you have another battery to try?

I've always had great luck with the 7406. My only complaint is that you can only put 6 of them on a system.

I've found the charger base is finicky. Sometimes you have to wiggle the phone to get the light on. The spare battery compartment does not have this issue.

I'm not pleased with the range of the 7406. It's older 900Mhz technologies.

Last week I had to change the charger & battery for a client as it overheated & melted the two together. Had them shipped straight to the client, so I haven't heard if all's ok or not. Then again, I haven't been paid yet either....

I think they make 10 7406's a week. One on Monday, that has finicky issues, 2 on Tuesdays that work good, 3 on Wednesday that work good, 3 on Thursday that work good, 1 on Friday that is brutal. Some that we install we never see again and the customer loves them. Some cost us so much time, we wish we never sold it in the first place. As Marv says the 900Mhz frequency is not great. It has SO many other things running on it now a days. When you sell the 7406 you need to indicate to the client that the technology is good, but there can be things in there space that interfere with the 900Mhz range. Thus affecting its performance. Do not ever sell a 7406 to a client who has a CS50 headset. Wow is that fun. Click<Click<Click: Hello. At least the new CS 70 headsets are on a different frequency. As for your question about a more reliable cordless solution on the CIC's. I think you can install spectralink on a CIC's, even though I have only ever installed it on a MIC's. I see no reason why it wouldn't work on a CIC's, as it just uses digital ports and its own hardware. Here is another option. You should have an internal Analog Terminal device that you could use for a regular cordless phone. Depending on the reason for the cordless, if it is just to get a hold of someone in the shop or answer one line at a time. That application for that is great. If it is for a receptionist who has to transfer calls, not an option. If you had a MIC's and new software, you can try the new Digital Mobility Solution that works OK. It is kind of finicky to get set up. But once you get it working, it works better than spectralink.

As the others point out, being a 900MHz phone, it is definately a small office solution. If you need to cover a larger area, or roam from one area or floor to another, the DECT solution is a better bet. But, it is much more expensive.

Speaking of interference with other devices, the last DECT solution I installed had to be removed due to operating in the same band (2.4GHz as some medical equipment.

Did you follow the "Initial Charging Procedures" exactly to the "T" ??? Straight from a Nortel Support, "If you do not charge the batteries right out of the box, exactly as the papers say, you will have problems with the unit."
I sold a cordless headset to a customer. It didn't work as soon as you went to the other room. Returned it. Got them the T7406. Went through the charging procedure before I took it to the site. It worked great. This was a medical center. It worked everywhere. Have not heard a word from them of any problem.

The T7406 is being used in a rather small area and range is not a problem. They are complaining about static on the line at times. The range area is about 50 ft. x 50ft. The business is a restuarant with a regular open area. I have tried several batteries with the same results. What would cause the slow or delayed DT? About the only thing I have not changed is the base. I must admitt I did not follow the charging instructions to the T as NTlayoff has mentioned. Would I have to let the battries drain out then start again?
I kind of agree with Nickles view..ha!!.tks guys for all of your help.....

Again - this is not me, but Nortel saying, "If the batteries are not charged according to the initial charging procedures, they can be damaged and are no good. You will have to replace them."
I suppose that would mean you could have weird problems. That may or may not be your problem. Delayed DT?? not sure what would do that. But then cordless phones seem to have a slight delay anyway. Maybe not as long as you are getting, though.

I had a customer with a T7406 that was working sporadically in a home office environment.

I did some looking around to see what else in the house was operating in the 900Mhz range. I found some infrared remote control extenders and after I unplugged them, the cordless worked fine.

I would bet there is something there causing your initial connection to be slow to find.

The drop-in charger is flaky as Marv pointed out, the single pack charger works better.
