I am competing against Shoretel for about 250 IP phones. I am quoting a CS 1000. Can anyone tell me any weakness Shoretel has? The IT manager of the customer working the quote for says he sees no weakness in Shoretel and I can't argue because I've never went head to head against them. I need actual platform shortcomings....not that Nortel has been the business 5 times as long as Shortel. Any help would be greatly appreciated

While we appreciate your dilemma, this is not a subject for this open forum. All systems have there good and bad points, one could easily turn your question around and ask for short comings of Nortel vs Shoretel.
The best offence/defence I can offer is promote your company as the better supplier to build a relationship with.

Isn't that just hypacrtical? You won't allow me to post an honest question about the shortcomings of a company.... that is trying to take money out my pocket...but I can post a false complaint about a customer or another vendor on the Hall of Shame...possibly ruin someones business without any proof what so ever. People make up crap about customers and vendors all the time. Who's the judge...who's the jury? The way I look at it Cisco and Shoretel are fair game...they are total IT companies that dabble in Telephony. As far as the shoe being on the other foot....Shoretel already showed the customer a 30 minute powerpoint on why Nortel sux. That's why I'm here. I see TeloMarv you live Canada...get ready Shoretel will com take money out your pocket one day. Pretty lame!!!

Lighten up, ChuckyH! Marv is just telling you the rules of the board. Sure, Cisco and Shoretel are fair game! However, if we start having threads about what system sucks the most, then every system will be put down. Then, when your potential customer googles CS 1000, they'll likely to get a link to this board and a post that says something bad about your product. As far as the Hall of Shame goes, there are some pretty strict rules about posting in that category. If you want to have your questions ansered, you need to get access to the "Installers" section and post it there. To get permission, post here: https://www.sundance-communications.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?/ubb/get_topic/f/1/t/001909.html

As nfc says, the rules of this forum strictly forbid product bashing.
The Hall of Shame forum is closely moderated and fraudulent accusations are quickly removed.
If you wish to discuss the shortcomings of a particular product or manufacturer, you may apply for access to the installer forum. The installer forum is blocked from search engine spiders and therefore out of sight from any potenial client. The rules there are much less stringent.
It is my personal opinion, that product bashing as a marketing tool is a mistake that will end up biting you back. I suggest you market your product and your company in a positive light without resorting to a negative smear campaign. Personally I walk away from any supplier who tries to use negative marketing to sell me anything. It's rude, it shows a lack of vision and shows the supplier afraid of the competition.
Ask yourself this. If your product/solution can not meet the customer requirements, is your product right for that application?
Nortel is a grand old company rich in heritage and market share. I can't believe anyone would be naive enough to believe such nonsense.
