I realize I'm probably the last one on the planet to get this..... but, Does anyone know the resistor size (specs) for the fix for the "too close to Central Office CLID Card burn-out failure".... and better yet does Nortel offer a cable with the resistors built-in?..... I heard this today

You could put an amp meter on the line and try different size resistors until you get between 25-30mA. I'd start with 100 ohms. This website sells current limiters www.mikesandman.com

47 ohms on tip, 47 ohms on ring, then 100 on tip, 100 on ring, then 150 on tip, 150 on ring. The only trouble is once you get 100 on tip and 100 on ring, audio levels are going to become a problem. The reason I say 47 on tip, 47 on ring, etc is you want to keep the line balanced. There is a way to do it with 1N4004 diodes without audio loss, but it's rather involved. Go with the current limiters, they're a better idea. Kinda like the Ford car commercial in the late '60's. And I'll bet NOBODY remembers those!  John C. (Not Garand)

I know I'm dating myself, but unfortunately (or maybe that should be fortunately!) I do remember those old commercials.

I made my own cable/harness with resistors I soldered to a pigtail. I think I used 100 ohm resistors, 1/4 watt. I tried 330 ohm first, but had some trouble with that. Couldn't get dial tone thru it, if I remember correctly. The 100 ohm worked for me, but I suppose it depends a little on how far from the CO, and what kind of office, etc. One resistor on each side of the line.

BTW, I didn't have any luck using the current limiters. The resistors did the trick for me.

A piece from the Bulletin
"Nortel recommends the use of 200 ohm, 1 Watt resistors in both Tip and Ring of each analog trunk.
Note that these protection devices should not be used if the Tool does not indicate high ring trip
current."
