Can an old MICS with copper expansion be upgraded to 7.1 and still use the current copper expansion modules?

I believe support for copper ended around 3.0.

So is that the only product that Nortel doesn't let an upgrade keep on working?? Anything 3.0 and higher must have Fiber??? Wow - that makes an upgrade pretty expensive.
Thanks for the info.

I don't know for sure... it could still work, I've never tried. The documents no longer talk about copper expansion cards. But as we know there are many "undocumented features" on the Norstar. I'd love to hear back if you successfully get it working.
Flash 2.1 should work on all Norstar softwares.

We've sold several Flashes with 2.0 that work fine with 7.1 CICS/MICS.

OK - HERE IS THE OFFICIAL NORTEL RESPONSE. This comes directly from Nortel Support. First, I am amazed that I received any response. This is Cool. Second, I wonder what page in the install guide he found the answer. It's probably in there.....somewhere! . QUESTION: Can you use copper expansion on 7.1 software? . Response: Yes, a copper expansion is supported on a MICS that is being upgraded to 7.1. However, please see the following information that was found in the MICS Installer Guide: "If you are not adding digital T1 trunks to your system, or expanding to a mega configuration, you may reuse your existing copper Trunk and/or Station Modules with the Modular 0X32 ICS in MICS 7.0/XC 7.0. One 6-port copper expansion cartridge can be supported on the maxi configuration. If you are adding digital T1 trunks to your system or expanding to a mega configuration, you must replace any copper Trunk and/or Station Modules with the new modules that have fiber connectors, and use a new fiber Expansion Cartridge in the ICS. You can reuse your old Trunk Cartridges in the new Trunk Module with fiber connectors."
I guess that sums it up pretty well. Now I know. And now all of you know, too.
