I am looking for freeware generic music on hold, in 8 KHz, 8 bit, Mono, u-law format and saved as a .wav file.
There has to be a site somewhere where I can download such a file, but either my Google abilities stink or it really doesn't exist.
Anyone help?

Find the music and make your own uLaw file. Let me guess- this a for a Premiere Technologies SM-1000 player that uses a flash card.

It seems like there is freeware or shareware everything somewhere on the web. I'm just surprised that someone isn't distributing music on hold files, expecially with a professional "your call is important to us [blah, blah, blah].

Music on hold files can be any format depending on the equipment so it's not likely you are going to find originals in an obscure format. uLaw, as far as I know was only used by Premier. Their new generation players now use mp3's.
I always prefer to have the original CD quality .wav file and resample it down from there to whatever format is needed.
