I'm having trouble connecting to a customer's BCM 200, ver. 4.0 using the Element Manager. I connect my laptop to the lan 1 port on the bcm with a cross-over cable. And I change my ip address to a valid address on the same network as the BCM. I was able to connect this morning, though I had some other trouble and ended up doing a reboot. This afternoon went back to finish some things and I get this error message: "Detector 'BCMDetector' cannot determine the device type for -ip address-."
If I try the BCM Monitor, I get "Unable to connect - error 315." And I can't get there with internet explorer and the ip address, either.
The system seems to be working ok otherwise. Any idea how I can get back into this thing?
Thanks. Jim

Try using the other port. Hopefully, somebody did not change that port. Use the default IP from the manual. Make sure you change your laptop IP to match the network address of the BCM (of course add one to the last number)

I'd be sure to try to connect to the home web page of the BCM. If you can do that you need to download the Element Manager version from that BCM and then try to connect.

No one else should have been in the system to change anything. I'll try the other port and default address. I double checked that I had the right network address.
I could not connect to the bcm home page either. And I'm already using Element Manager 2, though I didn't get it from this particular machine.
I hope to be on site tomorrow to check it out some more.
Thanks for now. Jim

Went on site and had no problem connecting normally. Not sure what was going on the other day!? Anyway, the system is running as expected, except for one minor issue (see other thread that I'll post next).
Thanks for the help. Jim

Well, it happened again today. Can't connect to the bcm. This time I powered down my laptop and rebooted and that did the trick. I already had the bcm's network address in the laptop, but it apparently wanted to see a reboot.
