I have a MICS with R1T1 software (NT7B72FA-93). Can I simply replace the software cartridge with a NVRAM cartridge and load 7.1 firmware or is there a specific upgrade procedure?

I ask because I've seen references here to an upgrade tool, but if I'm not concerned about loosing system configuration in the process, can I skip an 'upgrade' step?

Is there any significance between the different releases of the NVRAM (NTBB08GA-93) cartridges?

Thanks,

I would do a Startup with the R1T1 then when the display reads APPYING TEMPLATE un plug the the system. Install the 7.1 and power up and Configure. Good Luck

I recently had to go from 2.0 to 7.1 as an upgrade.
Since there were only 14 sets, I just removed the old cartridge, and inserted the new one. System did a cold start and I reprogrammed from startup.
I suppose it really depends on how system is programmed.Could be a bummer if they lost system speed/destination codes and things that are difficult to recover.Mine was easy.
I did make sure that sets were labeled correctly so that the users were not too confused after new software was installed.

7.1 requires NVRAM2. If you buy new software and cartridge you will surely get version 2.

What's the difference between the two NVRAM carts? Just curious.

Don't rightly know other than the book says you need version 2.

Original version had issues with later software revision corruption.
