Don't know where to read about it, I would do a google for "point to point t-1"

The last use I had for one was a Samsung system where we were using a T-1 card in one location to talk to a T-1 card in a second location using Q-sig signaling so one location could dial another locations phones and also retrieve voicemail from one central location.

Never used a point to point on a Norstar, last one like that had a separate VPN circuit that I wasn't part of programming.

Essentially a point to point is a circuit from a LEC or a CLEC that you use to let equipment from one location talk to another location.

Maybe someone can do more depth.

Point to Point T1s (sometimes referred to as PTPs or P2Ps) provide private, dedicated, reliable connections primarily between corporate offices and any number of satellite offices. A company can use P2Ps to transmit any combination of voice, internet access, and data to share private software systems and databases, and provide in-office dialing between phone systems installed in various locations. A primary advantage of a P2P circuit is that it can be deployed internally within a company's network, making the connections private, thus addressing a company's security concerns. P2Ps can also be used to provide a direct, dedicated connection between a local network and the internet. Many service providers offer various lease options for P2Ps.
