I have a Nortel CallPilot system and would like to start using the software (Manager) interface to configure the system. The techies that installed it did all the programming using the phones, and it's worked great for years. When I put a crossover CAT5 cable from the CallPilot to the laptop and entered the IP address provided in the user manual (pdf on cd), it just won't connect. I tried a laptop with win98 & one with winxp. Can anyone advise?

Thanks,
Geoff

Also, make sure your laptop is configured correctly .

If all else fails set up a 9600 8-N-1 session on the serial port and reboot the CP. During the boot up it'll show the IP address.

Fellows,

Forgive me, but I'm a lumber guy who loves to learn and work with technology, but no expert by any stretch. Your help's appreciated - big time!

Rather be fishing,
Subnet address? I'm not sure where or how to deal with this.

Rich,
Other than the subnet, I'm pretty sure I've got it, but need to know what to specifically look for or setup.

Tjk,
Dude, I have no idea what a 8-n-1 session is. Serial port's an idea, but don't have the cords for it (I think).

Thanks!

Tjk is talking about a hyperterminal seesion or similar program. Those are the setting you need to use to config the session. Are you sure they left the ip address default?

Set your laptop IP to within range of callpilot's Ip address: CP default ip ends in .10 I use .11 on my laptop.

Hire a tech. FWIW: You are in over your head (and it will get deeper once you successfully log-in to the CallPilot).
