Nortel may have finally got this one right. I just installed 2 phones/one base (you can have up to 4) on CICS. They're nice looking, good sound quality and excellent range.

The only issue is the weird wiring for the 8 pin jack that connects the 4 ports.
Port 1 - pins 1&2
Port 2 - pins 3&4
Port 3 - Pins 5&6
Port 4 - pins 7&8
Not exactly what I would call stanard wiring.

They had to make it "Simple" for the IT "Simpletons" out there.

I agree with you Marv. I just installed one yesterday. I had some time to play with it here in our shop and I was greatly impressed. You have to understand my great disappointment with the 7406. I couldn't even go down the hall. With the new 7406E I was able to go down to the basement of our building and most of the 4th floor (I am on the 2nd floor).

I am also very impressed with this product. For some time, I have been telling customers that Nortel is not coming out with a better phone and "Wa-la".

They are very finicky to get more than one phone working at a time. Follow the registration instructions EXACTLY. If you have one phone working, you may have to de-register it first, then register all the phones at the same time.

The pin outs don't come with the quick install docs that come with the phone.

So here is my trick question, anybody ever install 2 base stations and 7 handsets on 1 system?
I had no problem making base station 1 and 3 handset work. I programmed/connected the second one while still having it sitting on my desk and it worked fine. So I unplugged power and installed everything in it's final place (7' up the wall) reconnected power and all handsets lost connection to base ( no link) I had to re-register all 4 sets again. Now does that mean when the customer loses power all handsets need to be re-registered? This does not sound like something that should take place everytime.
Any suggestions?

Did you forget to flip the dip switches back to operation mode?
