I have a MICS that uses 3 modules each 12x0 with 3 CI cards to handle loop lines from various providers.
On some of the more heavily used (first selected incoming or outgoing lines) this system will eventually quit processing and ignore incoming ring. The system just acts as if it removes the port (line) from service. Hence the incoming call just rings w/ out any phone ringing. The MICS doesn't indicate in any way that their is an incoming ring.
I have swapped the CI boards and Modules the new ones exhibit the same behavior.
Has anyone ran into this issue. I'm using 7.1 SW.
We use several different service providers and have only loop lines for reliability and control.
Is this to much of a load on the MICS?. Has 7.1 been tested w/ 40 loop lines or is this SW 7.1 release bugged.
We don't use T1's but if we can't resolve this I may run all these loop lines into a C-bank and try migrating half of the loop lines into the T1 for load reduction.
Anyone found loop lines to exhibit this behavior on 7.1 or other SW??
Perhaps since most people seem to want T1's rather than loop this SW wasn't tested well???
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I've had no issue with high POTS traffic volume on ANY version of software.
Are these always the same CO's? How do you restore service? Multiple carriers is a red flag to me.

Is this randomly occurring throughout all cards and modules? If so, whats the common link? Fiber expansion card?

Have you checked the ampenol cable? Is it seated all the way? Have you removed the little screw at the top of the amphenol plug? That screw will keep the cable from seating all the way. Cable comes loose - no ring - no dial tone.

Maybe you have a dead line. That is why you have ring w/No answer and no indication of incoming calls.

Marv, This is not a CO issue. It is a MICS issue. What is your reasoning for suspecting multiple carriers as an issue? We have AT&T, C-beyond, Covad, and Vonage.
We must power cycle the system to restore the line.
It has happened on all carriers except vonage. It has to do with the load on the MICS not the carrier. If line 001 to 005 is busy, and say 20 or more other lines, then we may eventualy get a line that ignores incomming rings.
Rusty Nails, NTlayoff, It can happen from any line so it isn't a layer 1 issue. We have 2 fiber boards that all have either lines or stations on them. The common link is the KSU.
Vad60, Oh,
How many CI boards have you loaded a MICS with?

Maybe you DO have a KSU or software issue. It happens. This is not a bug. There might only be a database corruption. Do you move phones by set relocation or moving cross connect? You might want to try a complete reinstall before swapping out the KSU.

Jack, We had a similiar issue on a MICS w/32 copper CO's in to the MICS. Changed the cabinet and supposedly helped for awhile. Hand packed programming later and it helped, but their customers still complained about RNA. Cust"claims" they called Nortel and were told with their call volume, the Norstar just couldn't keep up??? Was 6.1XC we took it to 7.1XC.

Telemarv, We move phones by cross connecting. I've thought about doing a complete re-install but don't know of an easy way to perform it. DO YOU HAVE a suggestion on how to re-install??
BTS, I tend to believe the Norstar just can't keep up. Under heavy calls it acts like a slow PC. Sometimes it takes 20 seconds to release a call. I'm Using 7.1XC software. Was this SW supposed to help or resolve the issue??
I appreciate you both for the input.
