I have a client who has a Nortel CICS that shuts down and restarts without warning. Sometimes it takes 15 minutes or more for the system to restart. Sometimes it never restarts just blinks. My first instinct was to change out the cabinet, which i did, but the problem did not go away.
I then swapped out the line card with a known good line card. The problem continued.
I then decided it was a power issue and ran an extension cord to another electrical outlet and that corrected the problem for a couple of days.
Unfortunately, the problem has returned.
We had an electrician come out and check the power outlet and it was not isolated. The electrician isolated the outlet and we plugged the system back in, but no success (same problem).
I'm convinced it's a power issue so I just installed a small UPS to work as a power filter, hopefully this will remedy the problem.
If not, could it be the software? I've never had a Nortel CICS software problem and this would be the only thing I haven't tried (change out software card).
Any comments or suggestions?
Thanks.

Yes, it could be in the software card. It would definitely be worth a try to change it(software card), since that is all you have left.

Did you change the power supply? CallPilot power supplies have given me more grief than the IRS.
Also, heat is a big issue with CallPilots. On several installs that are not in a cooled IT room, I have to leave the door open/off on the CallPilot or they get "buggy".

Underneath the power cord there is a pop out box for a fuse. Try changing the fuse on it. Has corrected a few of my troubles in the past. I believe that there is a spare fuse in that box.

First, how often that heppaned? Second, it seems to me a software problem. Doesn't metter you plug in UPS. For the system Reset has to be Power fluctuation about 60V. Every body can aknowlege it.
