I installed a MICS with R6.1 feature cart. Stations all work fine and programming goes fine. Call Pilot 100 is recognized and able to be programed as well. System is in square mode. I have lines 1 to 4 displayed on each set and wired in. When a line is selected it waits a few seconds and then displays a message "lines not in service". They are active at the block. Does the main unit need to have a trunk cartridge in slots 3 or 4? I thought 8 lines were built in and required no cartridge. If I need one, that is my problem! Help!

MICS comes with 0, ZERO, no lines.
You must put in a card for trunks.
If you put in a LD/DS card or a CLID card it will give you 4 lines.
A second card will give you 4 more.

You need to call a Norstar technician.
They will help you and do the install properly.

that's strange. I remember getting "in service" msg when the system doesn't have a card in the first slot.
As ntlayoff said. you will need a line card in the system.
the first card goes in the slot on your right.
The older 824 had the 8 lines built in

That is what I was thinking after getting this message. I am a Norstar Tech, a self taught one! I have worked on several MICS, CICS, DR5, and 6X16 units. Just never configured the cards in a MICS at initial install. My primary specialty is the Avaya line though! Both have their + and -.
Thanks guys!

That is why tech's like me get called in after someone else installs the system and the customer asks, "Why do I hear this clicking noise everytime I dial?"

You are lucky man. In Manhattan customers will call the same guy over and over. Even he will call you to ask for help and you coming over and make happy that client he will still call the same guy and never ask for you until he gets really mad.

You guys are all too edgy! No you don't come in after me! That is why I get the answers before I screw over a customer!! I have worked on trunks, PRI, etc. The cards were just already in them. Most of my calls are from national clients that want me to go clean up after someone else. I am smart enough to do most things, just get wraped around the axle once in a while as most of you do too! That is why we have the tech forums! All of the MICS I had worked on had the LS packs in the KSU already. I always thought they were for expansion. The books do not specifically tell you that they are needed.
Lets be positive here guys! Help each other out. I do this part time and it often covers the small jobs that you are too busy to do. Good luck to all!
