Hey guys, its been awhile since I have posted. Been busy w/ career changes.

The company I am now working for is looking into purchasing an existing BCM that is already installed in the building we are taking over. I wont see it till tomorrow. Any clues on what I should look for so that I can report back here to find out what we actually have.

I have no problems w/ any of the Nortel KSU's i.e. MICS, CICS, and CP 100/150. What are the main differences in programming the BCM's? Eventually I plan to get myself into a class and certify on the BCM. Is programming done over the phone, gui, browser?

Thanks guys,
MO

Although the user operation of the phones are the same, programming is very different. Like the CP, you will need to know the IP address of the unit.

Depends on the version of BCM that you have. In the newest release 4.0 programming can be done through the phone but in 3.7 or below you cannot (or should not).

Release 3.7 and below uses Unified Manager accessed through IE. Release 4.0 uses a Nortel proprietary software called Element Manager.

If you were a Norstar guy, the move to BCM should happen pretty smoothly. I myself was cerified on all the Norstar equipment and then moved over to BCM. I had no issues. I do suggest however getting familiar with some data networking because that is an area that I still get stuck around with the BCM.

As far as what you want to look for, I would get the software version, types of phones (IP or digital) and installed keycodes.

Hope this helps

Thanks guys, been busy at work to update this thread sooner. I found installed...

BCM200 R3.0 w/ built in Call Pilot
DTI card and another card that looks like a 32 port station card. Phones are T7316E. The ip address is labeled on the cabinet but I have yet to plug into the network and try to gain access via my IE browser.

Im going to log into the Nortel website to see if I can download Element Manager. I know I can access the switch w/ IE but im sure I will need EM in the future if we decide to use this switch.

Also, does anyone know the capacity of the BCM200 and its built in CP? How many MB's (prior to seat lic.), hours of storage, VM ports, IP phone capability, MAX stations, and max PRI or T1's?

BTW... its not my forte but I am network savvy. I have beemn working on small networks for awhile and also hold an Avaya ACSE w/ my IP Office certification.

you won't need element manager with a 3.0. Just a web browser.

All the files you need are resident on the BCM.

I still have my dealer access to Nortel. Can I find documentation on the BCM200 there. Is the default password the same as it is on the MICS/CICS?

All you need is the IP address and the password and you can access all the docs from the box using a web browser.

No the password is not the same.

the BCM you have is maxed out. you can't add more expansion modules. It's fairly old, so be careful shutting it down since it some times thry don't came back. Make sure you back it up with the BRU on the unified manager page.
