Never had to use Restore before. I thought it would just "work".

I have to replace a CICS with another cabinet.
If I use NRU to do a backup, can I just do a restore on the new CICS?

Does it have to have the same s/w version ?

If it is the same software version, does it have to have the same s/w Cartridge??? ie do I have to take the cart from the old one and put in the new one??

Can I put in a DIFFERENT cart but same version to do the restore?
Is the restore done to the CICS memory or to the cartridge?

What I want to do is restore the programming to the new CICS with same version s/w, before I get to site, then replace the cabinet, take the cart out of old and put into the new. Will that work?

I get an error trying to restore.
I have a feeling it is checking the system ID #.
Any way around this?

You're correct Jim, the problem is the sys id. You can't restore from one to another.

CICS/MICS are not like the old 616 and 824. Those you could just move the software from one to another and be done. Tha database is stored in the KSU not the Flash card.

So I can't do backup, move the s/w cart to the new system and do restore???

Nope sys id will be different. You can try editing the sys id in the NRU excel files. I've never tried it. I think its easier and faster to do a CICS from scratch.

What do you mean by the Excel file? The backup file ends in .NEW

This CICS is 100% loaded. Fun re-do from scratch.

I've done this multiple times. The system ID is on the software card. The main thing is to make sure that your hardware configuration is identical; ex: expansion card on a CICS, number of modules (mini, midi, mega) or a PRI on a MICS.

I've done it on a MICS with different sw card; I had to upgrade the MICS from T1 to 7.0 to accommodate DMC wireless system. I restored on a side MICS; upgraded that one and when the store closed at 9 pm I just swapped the boards in the mics. (couldn't disrupt the system during business hours) So unless you have a PRI enabler, you should be able to bu/restore on different KSU or softwares, as long as they are the same version.
