I have an MICS w/ 4.1 software, and 2 CO cards
DS, can I have caller id w/ this system?

Sure if you remove DS cards and add CI cards.

And of course, you have to subscribe to caller id from the telco. The cards themselves can't do it alone.

PLUS, the system has to be programmed accordingly. Not so EZ, is it?

On 4.1 software you need to go to Terminals and Sets, Telco Features, change the setting to yes for each line that you want to display CID info before it is answered. Note that the line must be programmed to ring the phone for this to work. If a line does not ring you can dial FEAT 811 and press the blinking button to display the caller info before answering.
