OK. Complete nubie here with Nortel. A friend has a new company with 4 DID lines (normal analog lines with seperate phone numbers). He was given a Norstar Plus 32 w/T1 system, flash voicemail and a bunch of phones. I have some history with phone systems so I helped him wire it. We have the stations and voicemail working, calling each other etc. However, we cannot get a line out to work. I wired it into the 3rd connector down on the chassis. My main question is, since this isn't a T1 install, and I have removed the t1 card and done a startup and erased all previous programming, do I now need to buy something to replace the T1 card for the 4 incoming lines? I thought the system had built in Loop capabilities for at least the first 4 lines.
Please let me know what other information you need.

Norstar MICS requires line cards. There are no internal lines built into the KSU.

Thanks everyone for the quick responses. Are there different versions of the LS/DS cards I need to match with the version on our system or are they pretty universal?

LD/DS does not support caller ID. You'd need a CI card if you want caller ID.

adam,

In regard to your PM, it sounds as if you are a bit confused about the terminology. You mentioned DID lines, these are different from POTS; which now reading your post is probably what you are after. So you need to order ls/ds or CLID card, the latter supporting caller ID. Analog DID cards are for inbound calls only.

As a followup, We ordered a CLID card and the lines came right up once plugged into slot 4.
THANKS!
Now, one followup issue. We have 3 incoming lines. Line 1&2 are in an external rollover from the CO. I have the two lines in Pool A. All phones can access pool A. The 3rd line is defined to be FAX (using AA2). That works great. I set line 3 in pool B and configed the port that the AA2 line is on to allow pool B. However, I can't get an outside line. If I reprogram it to use Pool A, if I press 9 (on an analog phone plugged into the AA2), I get outgoing access. How do I configure the AA2, to use Pool B so it will go out line 3? If I am not being clear, please let me know.

You have to make sure that Line 3 is in Pool B. Is AA2 you are talking about actually ATA 2 adapter or I am mistaken? You have to assign code to Pool B(8). Then you have to make sure that only line 3 in that Pool. After that you have to assign that fax extension to have access only to Pool B and no Pool A access. You can't make Analog phone to have Pool B with off hook. You always have to dial access code or make that extension as a Hot Line.

Yes, it's an ATA 2. I had everything defined as you said above, except the code '8' to access pool. Which program tree sets that up? I didn't see it when adding Line 3 to Pool B.
