I am trying to figure out the name of the tool that is used to open the door on older style pedestal. It is like a larger version of an oni tool. Someone help me out!!!

Sounds like a 1/2" socket to me. The Reliable/Reltec divider plates in pedestals (CAD, etc.) were kept private from installers by using a 1/2" hex head, not available on a can wrench, but still just a standard hex.
The only other thing that I can think of is the 1/4" Allen head bolt with a center pin that was (is) used for partitioning compartments on cross-connect cabinets. It's a "T" handled tool that resembles a normal Allen key, but there's a hole drilled up through the duty end of the tool. Emerson Network Power and General Machine Products sell them.

Here's a thought...
Can you post a picture of this thing you are trying to access, with a TAPE MEASURE near it?
