Hey guys if you had a customer with two offices in different locations and the wanted to link both systems to act as one how would you do it ? Are some systems better than others for this ?

Way too many variables to blissfully answer the first question.

e.g. How many extensions on each site? Price range for project? What systems do you have in service now?

Second ?; Yes.

Most all manufacturers offer this capability, either through the use of point-to-point PRI circuits or VOIP. Either way, it's very expensive. Most customers who have small systems, like carpet stores for example, feel that they need to join this bandwagon until they realize how expensive it is.

Funny thing Ed I just did this for a Carpet Store. smile
Krane I went VOIP they had a Telrad in the first location and opening the second was easy as waiting for the internet to be installed and the network setup.

The Mitel solutions are not that expensive!
If you put a system in each location, it's about $xxx.xx per side, per tie trunk!
If you only need 2 or 3 phones, it costs less than you'd expect!!

We try not to quote prices here since they vary so much from location to location.
Thanks
Bill

The type of business.. Less than 50 people?

If so just make your lines centrex.

It's a great question without knowing the amount of phones at each end and the traffic.

I guess it's all about the traffic....

Without total Ip intervention with systems on both ends. Analog ports from one switch can be sent to another... But this is a Sub solution and still costly. Fractional t-1 from the local provider and at the other and can make this happen with the right equipement and tariff talking. I guess we used to call it fame relay.

I agree with what Ed said. If one office is small and needs only a few phones then VOIP is the way to go. Just understand that there are issues you will have to deal with such as E-911 calls at the remote site. The remote site will be down anytime your network is down and anytime your main location is down. With two phone systems connected with a point to point T-1 all those problems go away. But check on the monthly charge for a point to point T-1, ouch!

I agree with Ed and CMDL_GUY. Most of the time its a nice dream until you do all the legwork and get them a price. Then all of a sudden it is not important.

That being said....check into the existing system they have and what they can offer. If that is a no go look into Quintum products. They can link 2 independant systems via IP and it's ALMOST like having one system.

Still don't even know about existing systems. I assume two key systems? What brands?
Need to know this before we can all tell you to buy an Allworx... *he said slyly*
