What causes a mailbox user to lock themselves out of there mailbox? I asume its from putting in the wrong password but how long does it take to clear up, and how many attempts does it put up with before lockin out. Nortel Norstar NAM 4.0

It's been awhile, but if I remember right, it takes about 4 times to get locked out.
It does not unlock at all--I think a tech has to go there and reset password to default and then customer needs to get in and change default to something else. I don't recall ever doing this remotely. You don't have to rebuild the mailbox.

This customer has done this sevral times and what you said JWR was what I did, it fixed it until they did it again. Not just one person but three of them. I was just wondering if there was some way to defeat this, doesnt sound like it. I guess I should have been more specific about the warrenty

Your problem MAY be of no fault of the user at all. I think that IF someone is trying to get into someone else's box with the wrong password, even from another phone it would do the same thing. Same thing in reverse....if someone is trying to get into THEIR MB from another phone without adding the Ext number before the PW. Might want to point that out.

It's also one of those things that if two employees swap places, swapping their phones in the process---then don't realize that the extensions don't swap with the phones. They jump in and try to access their mailbox and ---bam---4 strikes and they're out.
You've got to impress upon your customers to let you know when any changes are taking place--you can then tell them what to watch out for---and also that you need to go there possibly to switch jumpers. If they don't, then the lock-outs are inevitable. It's their call.
One of the things I insist on is to program names for each extension. Sometimes the employees don't even know their extension number, but if they see that when they intercom someone, it's the "wrong" name. Sometimes it alerts them to the fact that "something is wrong".

Thanks for the update. We all learn from odd situations that we've never heard of.
