My customer has a BCM 400 4.0 with a single hard drive. My question is do I need to have a special chassis to have mirrored hard drives or can this be done with the chassis they have?

Your chassis is fine - the RAID kit comes with the brackets you'll need that mount inside the case (from what I understand; I've never seen it myself)
