I have a Meridian 616 system, and I'm interested in finding a doorphone (somewhere) to install on it. I do not intend on using a strike to allow the door to open; I just want the phone to ring so the secretary can talk to the person and then open the door manually. I have a few questions:

1. Does this just consume one digital port?
2. Can I have the doorphone ring multiple extensions?

I appreciate any and all help. Thank you in advance,
Zach.

Nortel used to make a doorphone that used a digital port, not sure if they're still available. I would use a trunk port if one was spare with a Viking doorphone. You could ring as many phones as you wish just like a normal, trunk.

Yes you can still by a Norstar door phone, now called the BST door phone that works with both BCM and Norstar.
Takes up one digital port and you can program chimes if need as well.

Agree with everyone but....

The BST doorbox is expensive, the Viking much cheaper unless you get the waterproof one which is EXPENSIVE.

The Viking takes up a CO port, IF you have one to spare.

If you have no CO port available, then the Norstar BST doorbox is your only option other than something like a DoorKing (EXPENSIVE) door box that shares a CO port. If you are on the same CO line as the DoorKing it sends a beep to let you know to flash and talk to the door then pick up the call you are on.

A 3rd party made the doorboxes for Northern so most likely they are still available.

Bunnie, I don't think that Norstar phone more expensive then Viking. They are in the same range.

I can't post prices here but the last time I bought a Norstar door box it was at least twice what a Viking cost. Maybe you have a cheaper source.

If you have no CO ports available then there is no choice but to get a Norstar door box.

We offer a single door answering device, V-2901A. This unit also connects to a trunk port on the PBX. Standard UTP cabling out to doorplate speaker. We have various doorplate speakers available (flush and surface-mount). You would need a 24Vdc 600mA power supply, such as the VP-624D.

If no trunk ports are available and you can program an analog extension to perform a ringdown, then we do have another option available. The PagePac (former Harris Dracon product line) V-5324004. When the button is pressed on this doorphone, it simulates a phone going off-hook. Your phone system will then ring another extension on the PBX (ringdown). Single UTP connection to doorphone from analog extension.

FYI: Valcom products are available through distributors such as Graybar, Anixter, Accu-Tech, Jenne, CSC, etc.

Can someone post a link for the Viking product? I'm unsure as to which one I need. I have two extra CO lines, and I would want it to ring several phones, so the Viking product seems the way to go. Thanks for everyone's help!
