I have installed a callpilot 100 on our cics, we are having trouble getting faxes from our 911 center (call logs). Any other fax machine, even online faxes will go to the dn I have set up with no problems.
I have the AA set to answer in 2 rings, recgonize fax in the cp and send it to dn 34 (fax machine), I have it on an ATA2, set to modem.
The 911 center's computer faxes these logs via 4 rotating u.s. robotics modems, so it's not always the same line from them (eliminating a bad line), they can send from a stand alone fax machine to any of our incoming 4 lines with repeated success.
Wondered if anyone has run across this with a u.s.robotics modem on the other end?
I have played with the ans time, modem vs. telephone, and can't seem to get it to work with that particular (the most important) incoming fax machine.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts or advice.
Jeff

Jeff, you shouldn't have to make any changes to the CP 100, or the CICS. If your machines will receive from any other machines with no problems, then the issue is with the 911 center USR modems. I would coordinate with the Director for the County 911 service to see if he can offer a solution.

Richard, That is where we are at, I did speak with the 911 Director at length today and he is looking into the problem. I simply was wondering if anyone had run into this or a similar situation before and could offer any advice or solutions that I could pass on to our 911 center. BTW Richard :I haven't screwed anything up yet (that I know of)

What is the problem with the one fax? It does not go through and RING the fax? or It rings to the fax, fax answers, but no good connection?

Jeff: From what you have said, it does not sound like your problem. Sounds like it is just compatibility issue.
I send faxes all the time all over the country. Example 1: One customer - never completes a fax. Finally convinced them to give me a phone number of a different fax unit. Works just fine. Never to the primary. Always to the backup.
Example 2: another customer. Never could get a fax to go through. Found out it was not a fax unit but to a computer fax. They finally accepted scan & email.

Did you try hooking a line directly to the fax without it going through the VM?
That would at least prove the problem is or is not with the line itself.

Bunnie: "Thats the way it was ..." (Walter Cronkite),and it worked fine. So now that it goes through the cics, freeing up a pots, and it dosen't work it seems to be my fault.
But I'm sticking to my guns and making the 911 center earn their pay.

You could try checking the voltage on that line when the call is ringing from 911 and when it is off hook from 911 just to eliminate some crazy voltage drop from the 911 center.
I was just at a site yesterday with an Abrivo/X Blue and it was supposed to have a perfectly dry contact but one side was actually 7 volts to ground. You just never know until you find the last thing you didn't think you had to worry about.
