Have a customer with a large Nortel MICS and the Nortel NAM with Symphony. It also has ACD. The other day he was pulling a report for the ACD group and the screen went blank. Everything seemed to be fine but then the next morning he had no ACD or Voice Mail and the system won't reboot. During the Boot process in the OS (operating System) it stops at RUN Work Place= Line in Config.Sys could not be started. Any suggestions. Pease, any help would be greatfully appreciated.
Thanks So Much, Paul

Is the phone system itself working fine?
I was always taught to go back to basics.
Others may have other advice, but I would shut everything down, phone system, VM, Symphony, everything. Reboot the phone system. Bring up the voice mail and see if that works, then bring up the computer and see if the computer comes up.
It could be the VM has died? Trouble shooting is a step by step process starting with the first little piece and adding things on.
I will say, I am NOT a Nortel guru but I have been trouble shooting phone systems since 1984 and trouble shooting is always starting with the most basic component and adding on.

I have rebooted everything twice. That's always the first thing I do. Not sure about the voice mail being the problem though. The IT person was trying to print a report just as he always does then the problem first raised it's ugly head. Unfortunately the ACD and Voice Mail work off the same processor so it's too tough to know which one caused the problem. The phone system itself works fine (knock on wood). I believe replacing the NAM is the best option. I have a back disc for the ACD. Thanks for responding.

Sounds like the hard drive is the issue.
I recovered one in a weird way once, stuck the hard drive in a freezer for 3 hours, pulled it out and kept it covered while hooked up to PC....imaged it to another hard drive with Acronis.

Thanks for all the advice guys, especially the one about the freezer. Will have to make that part of my truck inventory. The customer bit the bullet and bought another NAM. It actually was pretty simple since they already had the ACD backed up. Everything, except one or two issues, was brought back to normal in less than an hour and a half after install. Thanks again.
