I have a customer who wants an NEC DS1000 or DS2000. However they don't want to pay for the NEC voicemail (too much). He is curious if he can integrate a KX-TVS50 into the NEC system. I don't see much of a problem since it does have analog integration through analog ports which the NEC systems have. However I suspect it would be more difficult and he would probably lose some features of the voicemail as well? Anyone have suggestions? Thanks Dug Ward Telecomps Communications

DW, I know nothing of the DS 1000 or 2000 switches but the panasonic TVS I can help you with. If a switch Mfg. has a voicemail system then typically you do lose features by going with another Mfg. system. How does your client want to use this TVS 50 ? You know that is non-expandable at only two ports. If it is to act as an A/A I wouldn't have more the 4 CO lines on the switch. If they want to use it for only voicemail you may be OK. Is there an attendant? If so will she, (or he) be fielding all calls. Again how many CO lines and how much traffic? Once a port is busy it's busy. One incoming and one retrieving messages and thats it. You would probably be better off with a TVS 100 or now I should say 120. (There is a 110 but it's Discont.)If he wants to keep the cost down see if he will go for a refurbished unit and pick-up an NEC to go with the switch or talk him into a TD 8/16 or TD 12/32 Anyway you can setup the TVS 50 to recognize what DTMF the switch sends for various features, mwl-on, mwl-off, busy Etc. I don't see how you can get one touch retrieval though unless some way that switch can be programmed to send the follow-on-ID. Good luck.
