The old DOS box and software are showing age and unreliable. The integration of the 3rd party VM is very different than the TVS120 though and I am having some issues getting it right. I programmed the system after trying to follow the manual but could not get some of the features on the TVS to work as needed. I reverted the system to the previous saved version and went back to the drawing board.
I will have to program custom prompts at some point but need to get provide a basic function for our emergency on-call. I took over from someone else and do not know exactly what they have done. I need to have a voice mail box for the emergency system and use the message notification. Notification worked once and for some reason now the ports can not get an outside line or dial out.
It should not be that difficult I suppose but I am lost at this point.
Any pointers or resources would be appreciated.

Is notification on scheduled or continuos? does the number to notify have a 9 in front of it? was notification disabeled in the class of service for that mailbox?

Also check the class of service on the system (TD1232) ports that the voice mail is tied into. Make sure there not restricted or at least not COS 8 which is no out going calls at all.

Thanks for the replies and sorry for taking so long to get back. After reading the comments though I think I still have a problem. I will probably bend your ear Donnie.
Follow up on the suggestions posted and additional info.
I have set COS on all boxes to enable and the extensions testing are continuous (I also used scheduled before but that was when it was working). All jacks are set to COS 1 in cabinets; the post vs. extension is still a question.
I did a quick setup thinking I was clearing all the work I did (desperation). Since it did not do a reset I am now hoping to keep what I have and make it work.
I had in fact excluded the 9 (was not sure if VPS 'knew' this). Inserting the 9 though I am getting a format error which has popped up before and another reason I removed the 9. A number entered for a device like this '98885551212' shows up in raw call accounting as '9888555PP1212' and I have no good clues where the 'PP' is getting inserted in the system. From the previous VM settings in the Panasonic?

I am pretty sure you need the 9. I don't know where the PP's are coming from either. I have found that the system puts a P after the 9 automatically.

Cat 5 is correct, as the TVS goes off hook on intercom it must dail either a 9 (or an 8 with the trunk group # if you want to limit it to specific CO lines.) in order to call or notify by cell phone, phone or pager. Each mailbox can have 3 devices and numbers. Each device can be set for continues, scheduling or disable. Mailbox class of service has a bearing on whether or not external notification can be used. I don't recall any of the TVS units automaticly entering a pause, (P) although the later ones may, it's not a problem.

Thanks for all the replies and help. One hurdle is cleared, MW to device is now working (at least for cell phone). Donnie (slim) spent probably 45 minutes on the line with me and was able to refer to his manuals to help locate the issue. We got a little lucky after Donnie got us in the right place (Program - System Parameter - Others - Dialing Parameters Menu) It was the outgoing call set up sequence. I had no clue and set '1' for the digits to access outside line (still not sure what that means, options are 1 - 8). We set the 'Outgoing Call Setup Sequence' to 'T' replacing the '9' I had in place. The cell phone rang almost immediately after the change.
I still get the 'PP' inserted when viewing the Panalog report and raw data but it is not before the last to digits (88855512PP12). I suspect this may be in my Panasonic System>Voice Mail setting but until I can confirm it I am not changing anything like that.
The manual seems to assume you are running an initial install so there is no reference to system settings that may have been changed but are critical to the function. Donnie offered to look over my 1232a config file and may be able to provide additional pointers.
Next hurdle is the Forward to CO. I have numbers in programming but I for some reason not valid. COS is set, Panasonic COS is set (I think) and I have tried with 9 and 81 as well as without to pickup a line. I the the reply that it is not enabled so something is wrong with the number somewhere.
Thanks again (but there are a few more questions I will be asking).
regards,
joe
