I do computer work for a small business and they have a KX-TA624 system installed. It was installed by some guy a few years ago who charges way too much and has a horrible attitude. I've never worked with phone systems before but I told them I'd take a look at it anyway. They'd like to change their voicemail configuration around..for example change one phone to be extension 111 instead of 125. I believe the installer set a password which we don't know. I'd like to reset the whole system and reprogram it fresh since we don't know the password. However, I have no clue how to do this. If anyone could please provide me with some type of guidance I'd greatly appreciate it.

ejoech, lets start with the basics.
Are you familiar at all with setting up and programming phone and voicemail systems?
Do you have the programming and user manuals?
I think you may want to find another company to take care of this for you. Check out our installers link at the top of the page.

Thanks for your quick response. I have no experience with programming phones, however I thought it was sort of a simple process if you have the right guidance. The guy who installed the system left no manuals..I tried finding the manual online but I could only find the manual for the user - it doesn't tell you how to program the system. I'd like to try to do this myself to save my client some money as well as use it as a learning experience..however if you think it's extremely difficult to pick up then I guess I'll find a company to do it. Is it possible to find a manual to program the system?

I can't say whether or not it would be extremely difficult for you to pick up.
All I'm saying is we're here more for support then to walk someone through programming any system from scratch, experienced or
inexperienced. I do suggest that you find a local Tech. It won't take that long or cost that much and you'll establish a new working relationship where the Tech. may be willing to show you some of the basics. [Linked Image from sundance-communications.com]

Yeah, I wasn't really asking for personally someone to walk me through, I was hoping there would be some type of guide or system programming manual online. Like I said, I could only find the manual for the user..how to program the handsets - not the system. I've been asking around for someone to reccomend a local tech so I most likely will go that route, just rather do it myself. Yes, they are my client...I do all of their computer networking/tech support..I would charge them to reprogram the system but obviously not my normal hourly rate. They would be saving a LOT going through me than going with the guy they had install it initially.
I guess I'm just used to computer networking where there are tons of guides out there...doesn't seem to be for telephone systems. Thanks a lot for your time, Gem.

The phone programming is fairly straightforward, the phone programming for voicemail and the vm programming is not. The documentation is poorly written and I would not advise a novice to try what your suggesting. The manuals are available online from several different vendors.
