Recently a local motel's phone system died do to unknown reasons. I happen to do maintenece work there and therefore was elected to install and program the new one.

Info: The owner bought a KX-TA624 phone system with a 8 extension expansion card already installed. To that 2 co's, 1 proprietary phone and 12 non-proprietary phones were attached.

In the original phone system a "master" phone was designated, so when either phone number was called that "master" phone would ring and from there it could be transfered by the owner of the motel to the correct room.

Problem: In this new system every phone rings when either phone line is called from the outside. I have been looking through the systems user manual for this type of call screening, one-phone-to-rule-them-all-type option but can't seem to find it.

Is there an option like this? If so, what is it?

(Sorry for the long post)

You need the programming manual not the user manual.
The ringing assignments can be set on all the stations on a per CO basis.
Although this is a small, rather simple anaolog system designed for SOHO applications it's still a bit more then "plug & play".
If your not familiar with phone systems at all you would be better off calling a Tech. to come out and program it for you.
As long as you know what you want it to do it shouldn't be more then a basic service call.

A. The problem seems rather simple and I would think it would be atleast partially addressed in the 100+ pages of the programming section in the user/instalation manual.

B. So there is no way to designate an operater or switchboard-like phone?

C. I have installed and programmed a few older pac bell systems which seemed to be much more straight forward to program...

D. The nearest service tech refered to us by Panasonic is about 100 miles north of my location.

OK, go into your flexable ringing assignments 408, 409 & 410. D/N/lunch. Pages 4-68&4-69
disable ringing on all stations, use the * as a wild card.
then go into your CO line mode, D/N/L,
pages 4-72 & 4-73
programs 414, 415 & 416 and assign all CO lines to the extension in question.
(the one you want as an attendant oroperator) Use the * for all COs and select DIL then enter that Ext. #.
Good luck, Gem
