Recently installed one of these systems, and couldn't get into it with a laptop on either the USB or RS232 connections. I have used the laptop and Maintenance Console software on another system without any trouble. I removed my software and reinstalled with the CD that came with the system. I could put in the pswd and I would get an error msg that stated something to the effect that the main file was the incorrect version.

I had trouble connecting via rs232 but none with usb. Have you tried setting it to defalt? Did you initalize the system first? Is this your first 848 install?

I did initialize the system sveral times trying to connect. This is the second KxTAW848 I've programmed, the first one gave me no trouble at all connecting via USB. I tried the software from that install to get in initially, then removed the software and tried the disk that came with this KSU. Never did get in, ended up doing the programming I needed through a phone, but I need to do some more and would like to use the software.

Only other thing i could think of if its not the usb drivers is you got an 848 made for another country. I have had problems on the 816/1232 connecting to them with ppd software. Where did you buy it from? Also try pana tech suport since its an analog system they will talk with you.

It turned out to be an easy fix. The KSU came with 2 CD's. One of them had a fancy label and was the Maintenance Console CD. The other had a very generic label and had several items on it. The first CD had an old version of the Maintenance Console, the generic CD had a newer working version.
