Hello.

I was adviced to stay away from Panasonic because they keysets are suppose to break all the time.

I was wondering if there was any truth to that?

Unfortunately, a sign of our times is that all manufacturers are going to cheaper components in order to keep their product competitive. As someone in the repair business, I can tell you that, with few exceptions, almost all business telephone sets are becoming less and less durable. The quality of the components used has been declining for about a decade as all manufacturing is moving off-shore.
Oh well, more business for us .

More or less average but I've got one system in an auto parts store. It took almost five years before they finally had a set go bad --- then it was someone dumping a cup of joe. These sets are nasty but they keep on working. (7020). As above, everything gets cheaper but one of the reasons I went with Panasonic was the low failure rate.

i have been instaling panasonic systems for 15 years in that time i have replaced no more than 10 keysets whoever told you that is instaling something else
