Our recently-installed system has the FWD/DND button lighted all the time on all extensions. Each extension is "hard-coded" in the Maintenance Console to a 100 voicemail destination. The installer believes that this is required for us to have that most basic of telephone system requirements: you transfer a call to an extension and if NA or Busy or DND then the voicemail picks it up. Is there another way to do this, or a work-around to get around what the installer says is a serious limitation of the Panasonic system?

Thanks for any input.

with that set, any call to an extension will go directly to that extensions personal greeting under busy or no answer conditions.
With it off any calls from the A/A can still leave a message but the A/A will retrive the call and then offer the caller different options.
With it off, internal calls, (station to station) will not go to voice mail.
Also keep in mind that all these systems,
US, UK and Canadian versions are not completely the same.

Thanks for your reply. Yup, that's what's happening, the voicemail picks up the extension if the user doesn't answer it, as desired.

However is there a way to do this WITHOUT having the FWD/DND button dedicated to that pretty basic purpose and lit up all the time? Can intercept destinations be set somewhere else, other than under Extension - Wired Extension - FWD/DND to get the same effect?

If so, it seems to me, then the FWD/DND button could be a warning indicator to the user when the phone is UNUSUALLY forwarded, such as temporarily forwarded to another extension or to an outside line (cell phone). Having the indicator on all the time renders it pretty useless... in our organization we would never NOT want the voicemail picking up calls we don't answer unless we deliberately forwarded to somewhere else.

Appreciate that there may be differences between countries/systems. I'm in Canada and our model numbers seem more like the U.K.'s than the U.S.'s, if that helps.

Thanks for any further illumination or suggestions.

To answer your question (no)
The fwd/dnd button is the indication that your phone is on forward (which it is)
To get rid of this is to remove the forward
If it was me in your case I would put an intercept on all ext to v/m
Put a forward all calls button (then type destination)
So the intercept will trap the N/A calls
The intercept will trap the busy calls after the intercept time (but will send call waiting tone) but you can switch that off
The fwd light will be off unless the user has it set-to forward some ware else
Then rerecord the v/m prompt to say your party cannot be contacted at present but to leave a message please dial 1
And forget the message to continue holding dial 2
If the person dials 1 they leave a message

But that’s all I can think off...
