Hi, I had a guy call me who is looking to replace a couple of old 7230's. Would a 7731 be considered the replacement model? And would I lose any 7731 features depending on the 1232's software version?
Also, Does the 1232 have a system battery? If so, what are the issue involved if that battery goes flat?
Thanks.

I would not consiter the 7731 a replacement to the 7230. The 74XX would be much better. As the 7731 is an analog phone you would loose 2 line interactive display (you would only have a 1 line display). You would loose the 24 buttons with LED's (7731 only gives you 12 with LED's). You loose the XDP port. There could be other features that I am not thinking of right now, been awhile since I really worked with the TD systems. Panasonic uses a Lithium batter inside the KSU for back-up. I do not know for sure, but I beleive it is soldered to the main card, so you would need to pull the cabinet apart to replace. I cases like this, if the customer can not have the phones down I give them the option for a replacement KSU. Yes it will cost more, but minimum down time and they can get the newer software. Another option would be to install a larger (say 1000-1500VA UPS). This would not replace the internal battery but would keep the system running during shorter power outages. I hope someone will step in and correct me if I made any mistakes as it's been awhile since I've worked on the TD line.

Phone_girl_NE, as far as I can tell your right on. The replacement for the KX-T7230 would be the KX-T 7453 but it's wise to have a version 3 or higher for the 7400 series. MrG

Thanks for the replies!
The call I got was from a price shopper. The other quote he has is for 7730's. Would the 7730 be the 7230 direct replacement for KSU's prior to version 3? I'm just trying to understand the other quote. I'll have to find out what version he has...
Good info on the battery. But what exactly will happen when the battery dies? will we lose any programming, or is it just a time and date issue?
Thanks again for the info.

The 7730 is the older version of the 7731. They are both analog phones. The only difference between them is the 7731 has backlite numbers on the dialpad, nice in darker areas. If you can find them I recommend you try and stay with the 72XX line of phones. When the battery goes your system will run fine untill you have a power outage. At that time the system will default to factory programming and all customer data will be lost. System would need to be reprogramed. Keep this in mind if you put a UPS on the system as unplugging it will cause the customers memory to be wiped out.
