I was looking at the "advance hybrid" model KX-TAW848 phone and I read

"Single Line Device Integration Yes, allows connection of many types of single-line telephone devices such as answering machines, cordless phones, fax machines, etc."

Are these specialized lines for only analog decides or are they the same line also used for the digital phones?

So if you have an entire house wired into this phone system. You can just plug in a fax or a digital phone are they both will work? Am I understanding this correctly?

I know on Samsung you have 2 choices.

1.DLI(digital line interface) for digital phones
2.SLI(Single line interface) for analog devices

You can only plug a digital phone in a DLI port and an analog device in a SLI port. No exceptions.

Does the Panasonic really have "universal" lines that you can use both?

Does this mean they don't use proprietary digital phones signal?

Please let me know because this would be a big advantage.

Thanks.

Jim, you've been bouncing around on this subject. As I haven't done the 848, I am no expert BUT the Panasonic designation KXTAW tells you it is a Telephone Systen, Analog, Wireless === just as the KXTA824 tells you it is an analog system. The numbers mean the number of CO's it can handle and the number of ports it can service with maximum expansion.

Therefore, to answer your question -- No, you do not have a digital and an analog set on each port --- two analogs, yes, one propritary and on slp --- NO DIGITAL on these systems.

Look for Paralell Connections.

Having said that, the 624 replaced with the 824 both allow for adding fax, cordless, ringers, whatever or the 77xx series sets. Mix or match. No special cards, all ports work either way. And, yes, it has PBX features.

The 848 has the wireless option, half and half, but I was told that the maximum wireless connections at the same time is 8.

Does this help? Buy the 848 or 824 and enjoy a home system that is hard to beat. You have to make your ownm mind up which is best for you.

Good Luck, wink KLD

Hybrid ext ports can run a Multibutton phone, a multibutton phone and a single line device in parallel mode, a single line device alone, or a multi button phone and a celluar wireless phone in parallel mode, or a cell base station, or a DSS, or a VPS. The system supports 8 hybrid ports.
The other 16 ports, (8 ports per card) can be
Proprietary only: a multibutton phone, DSS,VPS,
or single line only, with CID as an option.
Yes this maens that on a Hybrid port you could have
A 12 button display set in the living room, put a dual plug adapter on the jack and plug in a waterproof cordless phone for the pool, it would act like a second handset of the multibutton phone. But waht really rocks is the cell system. cool cool cool
Oh, by the way, don't get hung up on "Digital",
it really doesn't mean Jack Squat as far as function to the end user. Some sales people play mind games with "Digital" "Analog" "IP Ready"
"Upsidedown Bubble Memory" and other claptrap.
Digital and Analog both have good and bad sides.
Panasonic has analog intergration that does the same voice mail tricks as the digital.
