Vad60, Just what I was thinking, but they're so cheap, we trash them at the customer sight.
sentrex1, I understand immagration to Canada is kinda rough, and I'll lose my social security, and there are other problems, altho there are good things that could happen, like relatives too lazy to drive that far!
TTT, Why didn,t I think of that? My background was electronics, I even know how that will work!
hbiss and twistedpair, Just train the dog9s0 to lift their leg at the right location, wala, you've got corroded jacks. But,I'm not so sure about the market.
Ed, resistor is probably the way i'll go cause we have a resistor kit, and no zener's per TTT.
Ok thanks guys, subject closed. John C.

I'm hoping and think that the Viking device, posted above, is exactly what I'm looking for. I have a project at work to come up with a "dial tone simulator" for another part of our department. They are wanting this for teaching young kids how to dial 911....without using a real land line to dial 911. We need two phones hooked up...one for the student, and one for the "911 operator". The student needs to hear dial tone when they pick up the reciever, and when they dial 911, the other phone needs to ring.

When the phone goes off hook with the Viking unit, you will hear dial tone, however, it causes the other phone to ring immediately. It won't wait for you to dial 911.

The second unit you posted while I was posting will do what you want.
